Julietta Sheng
Program Manager | Education and Community, EBRC
As Program Manager for Education and Community, Dr. Sheng focuses on education and community building, bringing expertise in strategic communications and cross-sector engagement. She leads and supports initiatives that expand education and workforce development opportunities through professional development activities, technical workshops, and targeted community-building, including work to develop national infrastructure supporting local bioeconomy networks for engineering biology education and outreach. She organizes panels, roundtables, and industry-focused programming at national and global biotechnology events, convening startups, industry leaders, investors, federal agencies, and scientists to expand and accelerate pathways from discovery to application. Dr. Sheng also supports EBRC’s strategic communications and membership engagement efforts.
Beyond EBRC, Dr. Sheng’s professional experience includes mentoring and community-building roles with International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM)’s High School Steering and Project Regional Meetups Committees, the Association for Women in Science, the Colorado BioScience Institute, and The Endocrine Society’s Research Affairs Core Committee. Through these efforts, she helps support scientists across career stages, expanding opportunities for networking, professional development, and scientific leadership.
Julietta earned her PhD in Biomedical Sciences-Neuroscience from Colorado State University, where her NIH-supported research
examined sex differences in brain and immune interactions relevant to neuropsychiatric and metabolic disease, including Major
Depressive Disorder, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. Her research was driven by interdisciplinary collaborations, bringing
together researchers across institutions and disciplines, as well as industry partners, to investigate complex biological questions and
advance understanding of mechanisms in the brain.
Outside of work, Julietta likes to play kickball, read psychological thrillers, and go on long walks with her puppo.
