Dylan is a chemical engineering graduate student in the Lucks Lab at Northwestern University. His research focuses on establishing design principles for cell-free metabolic biosensors. He is also interested in intersections between art and synthetic biology.
I majored in life science during undergrad and took part in iGEM which introduced me to the field. Then I applied to Penn and started my work in this inspiring field.
Wakana Sato is a Ph.D. student in Dr. Kate Adamala’s lab at the University of Minnesota. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture at Hokkaido University, Japan, in 2018. She is interested in designing and controlling cell-like functions through in vitro reconstitution. In her free time, she likes playing tennis, reading books, and exploring delicious foods.

First year Masters student studying Bioengineering and a member of the Penn International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) research team in Synthetic Biology.
Paul is a Ph.D. student in the bioengineering program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently working in the research group of Ravinder Reddy, Ph.D., within the Center for Advanced Metabolic Imaging in Precision Medicine (CAMIPM). His research work consists of using dielectric materials for the correction of MR images and spectroscopy. Paul is originally from Phoenix, Arizona, and enjoys rock climbing in his free time.
Gaël Chambonnier is a Postdoctoral Associate in Jacquin Niles Lab in the Department of Biological Engineering at MIT where he studies the human malaria parasites Plasmodium falciparum. He earned his Ph.D. at Aix-Marseille University in France where he studied the regulation of a key virulence process of the human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa under Pr. Christophe Bordi. Overall, he’s particularly interested in regulatory systems and in developing new tools to study them.
Abbey graduated from the University of Missouri in 2018 with her B.S. in Biological Sciences. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a researcher in Dr. Troy Zars’ lab studying thermogenetic tools in Drosophila. In 2019, Abbey joined the Adamala lab as a graduate student at the University of Minnesota studying communication, coacervation, and organellogenesis in synthetic cells. Her interests include tool development, astrobiology, and biotechnology.
Bennett Wolf is a graduate student in the Church lab at Harvard University. His research focuses on the use and generation of engineered iPS cells to create novel regenerative medicine and long-lasting biologic therapies. He also works as a Venture Creation Lead for Nucleate Bio Boston.

This workshop will continue to refine the Roadmap’s technical themes and goals developed in previous workshops on engineering biology approaches to address climate, environmental, and sustainability challenges. In addition, participants will draft key technical objectives, milestones, bottlenecks, and potential solutions toward accomplishing those goals.

Jenn Brophy is an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University. Her lab focuses on engineering plant development to control the size and shape of plant organs and tissues. Jenn received her BS in bioengineering from UC Berkeley and PhD from MIT, where she worked with Professors Christopher Voigt and Alan Grossman to develop a tool for engineering undomesticated bacteria and modifying microbiomes in situ. For her postdoctoral research, she worked with Professor Jose Dinneny at Stanford to engineer spatial patterns of gene expression across plant roots using synthetic genetic circuits. Jenn was previously Co-Chair of the Synberc Student and Postdoc Association, the precursor to the EBRC and was recently awarded a Chan Zuckerburg Biohub Investigatorship.
